Nagura stones
You can get miracle result with them
When you use hard stone more than HS50 hardness, you may use Nagura stones. Nagura stone flattens your stone and makes fine slurry. This is the final process of the finest stone sharpening. We have several kinds of Nagura stones. You can think harder stone has finner grain. But harder stone is more difficult to use. Please check my comments for each stones.
Nagura stones are very pure without sand or iron. They became very rare stone now. When you sharpen razors, you need Nagura stones.
You can control the shaping power with some kinds of Nagura stones. For example, when you use soft Nagura, your stone has shaping power. They are very effective way on hard stones.
If you want Tomonagura for rough or medium fine stones, please let me know. I will suggest some stones for your purpose.
There are so many names and layers. For example, Botan, Yaebotan, Mejiro, Tenjo, Koma, Atsu, Ban layers. Torakiji, Shimakiji, Hakucho, Betsujo, Tokyu, Jyoukyu colors or glades. Some were just named by each sellers. They are so complicated. But 100 years ago, there were just Koma and Chu Nagura. And I agree. Not everything, but on my experience, Koma is very white, fine and hard. The others are Chu nagura which are yellow or stripes like Botan. Rarely, there are harder Botan, or softer Koma. They are natural stone, so each qualities are too difficult to be categorized. For example, I like white nagura, but some people like stripe one.
